The Toccoa River runs year-round — and so do the reasons to be here.
Peak tubing season. Float the Toccoa, cool off in the current, and fish early before the sun climbs. The mountains run 10–15°F cooler than Atlanta, making summer here genuinely comfortable. Book well in advance — this is the most in-demand window of the year.
North Georgia's finest season. The Toccoa runs clear and cold — prime trout territory. Leaves peak mid-October in amber and crimson. Drive to the Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay or Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega. One of our personal favorite times to be here.
Trout are cold-water fish — they don't hibernate, and neither should you. Winter fishing on the Toccoa is uncrowded, peaceful, and surprisingly productive. Come home to a fireplace, a warm kitchen, and the sound of the river through the windows. Fewer guests means lower rates and full solitude.
Wildflowers bloom along the Toccoa, the forest wakes up, and the trails into the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest hit their stride. Fishing picks up as water temps rise. Waterfalls throughout the region are running full and fast. One of the most beautiful — and underrated — times to visit.

"The stay at Toccoa Currents was just what we needed! Beautiful home, comfortable, and immaculately clean. We loved hanging out by the river during the day and sitting on the porch in the evening watching the deer come down to get water. The host was always quick to respond. The cabin has so many nice extra touches for your furry friend — food and water bowls, dog beds, and even dog treats. The kitchen has brand new appliances, a large refrigerator, gas stove, and is set up to cook like your own home. We will definitely be back."
"We had the absolute best stay at this mountain house! It was the perfect spot for our girls' trip and so dog-friendly, which made it even better. The house was spotless, cozy, and had everything we needed to feel at home. The views were gorgeous, and there was plenty of space for us to relax, laugh, and make memories. Our dogs loved the open yard, river, and trails nearby — it was a getaway for them too. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing mountain escape, especially if you're bringing pups!"
"Toccoa Currents was exactly what we wanted and definitely did not disappoint! The location was secluded, peaceful, next to the Toccoa River and absolutely perfect. The kitchen is well stocked with a nice coffee/tea bar. King size bed was very comfortable as was the leather reclining sofa and leather recliner. The rustic bed frame, kitchen table, and wooden pieces suit the cabin very nicely. The wrap-around covered porch with chairs and glider is perfect for enjoying the scenery, gas grill and steps away from the river. This is the perfect couples getaway!"
"Very spacious and comfortable cabin. Wonderful view of the river. Super comfy giant bed made for great sleeping. Loved sitting out by the bonfire and listening to the water flow by. Lots of places to fish nearby. Looking forward to returning in 2026."

The kitchen was stocked with utensils and pots and pans. Nice coffee bar and outdoor gas grill. The host was very helpful. It was just what we were looking for."
Located in the North Georgia Mountains near the Appalachian Trail, Headwaters offers direct access to hiking, fishing, and outdoor adventure. Walk straight from your backyard into the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. You're minutes from scenic drives, waterfalls, and tastings — but far enough to feel completely unplugged.
We're dog people who found Suches by accident — and fell completely in love.
Every October, North Georgia pulls us in with two of its most celebrated festivals: the Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay and Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega. Searching for a place to stay between the two, we stumbled onto Suches — a tiny mountain community tucked along the Toccoa River with the Chattahoochee National Forest in its backyard. One stay was all it took.
We bought the cabin now known as Toccoa Currents: Fish Head Lodge. Two years later, when Headwaters came available right on the river, we didn't hesitate.
We've logged more weekends here than we can count — dogs in tow, lines in the water, coffee on the porch. We've poured every detail that makes a stay truly unforgettable into these cabins: thoughtful, spotless, dog-welcoming retreats that guests come back to again and again. Our Superhost status and Guest Favorite recognition reflect what we care about most — making sure your stay feels as good as ours does.
We can't wait to share it with you. 🐾
