Suches is a real mountain community, not a resort town. The people who live here year-round are farmers, families, and longtime residents who have been here long before vacation rentals existed. When you stay at Toccoa Currents, you are a guest in their neighborhood. That comes with a short list of things worth keeping in mind.
The Cows
You will see cows along the roads in Suches. Pastures run up to fence lines, and the animals are often close enough to look at from the road. They are, in fact, very cute. One of our neighbors put it best:

The sign says it better than we can. The cows belong to someone. They are not a petting zoo. Please do not enter the pastures, do not feed them, and do not let your dog chase or approach them. A dog that gets into livestock is a serious problem in a farming community — under Georgia law, a farmer has the right to protect their animals.
You can watch them till the cows come home. Just don't light up while you do it.
Smoke-Free. For Good Reason.
There is a reason the air in Suches smells the way it does. The Chattahoochee National Forest surrounds this community on all sides. The forest is not scenery. It is the reason the place exists the way it does. Every cabin, pasture, and road in Suches sits inside or immediately adjacent to it.
Fire risk here is not abstract. On April 19, 2025, the Browns Mill Fire broke out on Browns Mill Mountain in Suches and burned 40 acres of land that is 89% forest before crews from Fannin County, Union County, and the National Forest Service contained it. The cause was officially listed as undetermined. Earlier that same spring, the Big Ridge Fire burned more than 3,300 acres of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in neighboring Rabun County, started by an escaped campfire.
This is a dry-season, high-canopy, mountain forest. An ignored cigarette or an unattended fire in the wrong conditions is not a small problem.

Toccoa Currents: Smoke-Free Policy
We watched the Browns Mill Fire from our security cameras at Fish Head Lodge. The ridge it burned is directly across the river and Hwy 60. One lane each way, though calling it a highway is generous. Both cabins are 100% smoke-free for this reason. No cigarettes, cigars, vaping, or any smoking anywhere on the property, indoors or outdoors. The firepit is for wood fires only, and only when conditions allow. If a burn ban is in effect in Union or Fannin County, the firepit stays cold. Guests who smoke on the property will be asked to leave and charged additional fees.

Private Property and Driveways
The land around cabins in Suches is a mix of national forest, private pasture, and working farmland. Not every road leads somewhere you are welcome. If a driveway or gate does not belong to your rental, it belongs to a neighbor. Stay on public roads, the national forest, and your own rental property.
Most short-term rental properties in this area have exterior security cameras covering all points of access, including driveways, river approaches, and the surrounding perimeter. External cameras are typically disclosed in listings. Worth knowing before you arrive, and also worth knowing that they work in both directions.
One host in the area had their guests accused of taking fish from a neighbor's private trout pond. Camera footage covering all points of access showed the guests never went near it. The same footage captured vehicles belonging to the neighbor's own guests coming and going throughout the stay. The accusation did not go further.
Noise and Hours
The mountains are quiet. Sound carries further than you expect, especially at night. The people who live in Suches get up early to work. Keep noise at a reasonable level after dark and your neighbors will never know you were here — which is the goal.
Suches is a special place because of the people who live here. Leave it the way you found it and you are always welcome back.

No. The pastures and fields around the cabins are private property belonging to neighboring landowners. Please stay on your own rental property or on public trails and roads.
Can I pet or feed the cows near the cabins?
Please do not. The livestock in the area belong to neighboring farms. Approaching, feeding, or interacting with them is not appropriate — no matter how friendly they look.
What should I do if my dog approaches livestock?
Keep dogs leashed any time you are near the road or neighboring property. A dog chasing livestock is a serious issue in a farming community and can result in the dog being harmed under Georgia law.
Are there year-round residents in Suches, GA?
Yes. Suches is a small mountain community with families and farmers who live here full time. The roads, fields, and driveways around the cabins are their everyday home. Guests are visitors in a real neighborhood.
Can I smoke on the porch or outside?
No. Both cabins are 100% smoke-free indoors and outdoors. No cigarettes, cigars, vaping, or any smoking anywhere on the property. You are surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest — that forest is the whole reason this place is worth coming to. We take care of it.
