When to Come

Best Time to Visit

The Toccoa River runs year-round — and so do the reasons to be here.

☀️

Summer — June through August

Peak tubing season. Walk five minutes to the Toccoa, float downstream, cool off in the current, and fish early before the sun climbs. The mountains run 10–15°F cooler than Atlanta, making summer here genuinely comfortable. Book well in advance — this is the most in-demand window of the year.

🍂

Fall — September through November

North Georgia's finest season. The Toccoa runs clear and cold — prime trout territory. Leaves peak mid-October in amber and crimson. Drive to the Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay or Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega. One of our personal favorite times to be here.

❄️

Winter — December through February

Trout are cold-water fish — they don't hibernate, and neither should you. Winter fishing on the Toccoa is uncrowded, peaceful, and surprisingly productive. Come home to a fireplace, a warm kitchen, and a quiet 1.24-acre yard to yourself. Fewer guests means lower rates and full solitude.

🌸

Spring — March through May

Wildflowers bloom across the property and along the Toccoa, the yard comes alive, and fishing picks up as water temps rise. Waterfalls throughout the region are running full and fast. One of the most beautiful — and underrated — times to visit North Georgia.

★★★★★ December 2025 · Stayed with a pet

"We loved our stay at this cabin! It had everything we needed: a fully stocked kitchen, clean bathroom with plenty of towels, and a washer and dryer which was super convenient. It was also very pet-friendly with bowls, towels, toys, and treats for our furry friends. The property had lots of space for our pets to explore, and the fire pit was perfect for relaxing at night. Cooper's Creek Store was just a few minutes away and had great food and all the essentials. The location was ideal, close to Blue Ridge, Ellijay, Helen, plus beautiful trails and waterfalls nearby. Perfect little getaway for couples and pets — we can't wait to come back to experience different seasons! Highly recommend!"

"We absolutely loved staying at the cabin! I loved all the little added details for our pups like extra beds, blankets, toys and treats — and they loved the big screened in front porch. The kitchen was big and allowed me to make large meals with 3 other people without bumping into each other. Having the country store 1.5 miles down the road is really convenient. We also went to Wildcat BBQ — some of the BEST BBQ I've eaten! Highly recommend the brisket! All in all, perfect."

"Loved our stay! The house is set up for everything you would want to do in the mountains. It is very dog friendly with beds and toys. We loved the big front yard, screened porch and backyard area with the fire pit. The house was spotless and clean when we arrived. No complaints whatsoever and will definitely be back. I would recommend eating at Wildcat BBQ a couple of times — the brisket, pork and brunswick stew are delicious."

"We had such a wonderful visit. The cabin was absolutely beautiful! We went trout fishing nearby, visited several antique shops, grilled our fresh caught fish and enjoyed watching football on the big screen TV. Wish we could have stayed longer. Next time we will plan to go horseback riding and maybe visit one of the local vineyards."

One of the most loved homes on Airbnb

We're dog people who found Suches by accident — and fell completely in love.

Every October, North Georgia pulls us in with two of its most celebrated festivals: the Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay and Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega. Searching for a place to stay between the two, we stumbled onto Suches — a tiny mountain community tucked along the Toccoa River with the Chattahoochee National Forest in its backyard. One stay was all it took.

We bought the cabin now known as Toccoa Currents: Fish Head Lodge. Two years later, when Headwaters came available right on the river, we didn't hesitate.

We've logged more weekends here than we can count — dogs in tow, lines in the water, coffee on the porch. We've poured every detail that makes a stay truly unforgettable into these cabins: thoughtful, spotless, dog-welcoming retreats that guests come back to again and again. Our Superhost status and Guest Favorite recognition reflect what we care about most — making sure your stay feels as good as ours does.

We can't wait to share it with you. 🐾
